Regional Chair Duties & Responsibilities

General Purpose:

To provide a supportive environment for regional midwives to support one another and to promote professional midwifery care as the norm in their community.  Regional chairs coordinate and delegate activities within the region and represent the region in Affiliate events.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate social events for midwives within their region.
  2. Attend official Virginia ACNM events, or send a representative when appropriate.
  3. Attend and/or sponsor regional events that support the mission of ACNM, or send a representative when appropriate.
  4. Promote public awareness of professionally related events.
  5. Assist the secretary to utilize the website and social media to promote midwifery in Virginia, plan events to facilitate communication and share information among other midwives, consumers, public officials, healthcare administrators/providers/organizations.
  6. Identify a member representative to post midwifery related content on the Affiliate Facebook page and respond to posts placed on website.

  • Central Region- AlexAnn Westlake, CNM
  • Northern Region- Penny Wortman, CNM
  • Richmond Region- Leslie Fehan, CNM
  • Southwest Region- Leah Miller, CNM
  • Tidewater Region-  Jamie Guertin, CNM

Meetings:

The Public Relations/Marketing Committee will meet: Quarterly or as needed.

Specific Annual Objective/Activities/Milestone Dates:

  1. Identify Regional Resources for the website
  2. Commit to perform the duties outlined in the Regional Chair job description.
  3. Assist board and membership to utilize the website and social media to promote midwifery in Virginia, event planning, facilitate communication and the sharing of information.
  4. Identify a member representative who will be responsible to post midwifery related content on the Affiliate Facebook page, and respond to posts placed on website.
  5. Coordinate two social events for midwives within their region.
  6. Attend official Virginia ACNM events, or send a representative when appropriate.
  7. Attend and/or sponsor regional events that support the mission of ACNM, or send a representative when appropriate.
  8. Assist members to access marketing tools and/or apply for an Affiliate grant/award.
