Introduce yourself! Who are you, how long have you been a midwife, and where did you train?
I have been a CNM since 2007. I graduated from Frontier, and am the current Director of Nurse Midwifery at UVA.
Tell us about where you work and the women/families you serve.
UVA in Charlottesville. We serve a mixture of clientele including students, professors, physicians, indigent, rural, and even refugees.
What led you to midwifery?
I wanted to improve women's health care. Preserving birth knowledge and physiologic child birth drives me.
What do you love about being a Midwife?
I love watching women become mothers!
What are your special areas of interest (obstetrics, gyn, education, etc.)?
I love educating residents and students at this point in my career to be more "midwife-like" in their future practices.
What do you see as an area of maternal health that needs more awareness, support and/or education?
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I'm a mother of 4 intelligent and athletic children that keep me super busy! I'm also training for my black belt in Okinawa kempo karate.
