  • Keep your focus
  • Be on time
  • Introduce yourself
  • Thank the legislator or Legislative assistant for meeting with you
  • Present your major concern/bill first

Offer your brief introduction:

  • Women have difficulty accessing CNM care
  • CNMs have difficulty caring for women due to current restriction of practice
  • Other APRNs have a similar problem (refer their questions to the APRN group : tell the legislator that you will have someone to address their concern)
  • Review the bills with them (use the one page Va  Affiliate info sheet and give to the legislator

Answer questions to the best of your ability: IF YOU DON’T KNOW:

  • Say you don’t know or are not certain or the information is not available
  • Offer to obtain more information (you can refer to Mary Ellen, Jessica, or Matthew) and bring up in debriefing
  • Never lie

Thank the legislator for their time and interest in your concern

Send a thank you letter or email
