"It is when we include caring and love in our science; we discover our caring-healing professions and disciplines are much more than a detached scientific endeavor, but a life-giving and life-receiving endeavor for humanity." - Dr. Jean Watson
Nancy Giglio, CNM was nominated by a mom and local midwife to recognize her over 30 years in practice. Primarily attending home births in RVA, her dedication is the foundation to the growth of midwifery in Richmond.
The mission of the Virginia Affiliate of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (VA-ACNM) is to support midwives and advance the practice of midwifery in order to educate, empower, and achieve optimal health for women through their lifespan. Nurse-Midwives have expertise in well woman and gynecologic care, promoting optimal pregnancy, physiologic birth, postpartum care, and care of the newborn. VA-ACNM supports the practice of midwives by promoting education, research, and advocacy that advances clinical excellence, expansion of a diverse midwifery workforce, and equitable legislation, regulation, and institutional policies that establish midwifery as the standard of care for women.
Our Moment of Truth™
Our Moment of Truth is an ACNM national level initiative to improve women’s health and maternity care in the United States by re-introducing midwives and midwifery care as important options that should be the norm for women’s health care services. As an affiliate, we want to extend as many resources as we can from this initiative to help women and families in Virginia.
